1. Metallic Details - From classic silver and gold to the less expected, but just as stunning bronze, pewter and copper. Add this accent in elements such as chargers, glassware and napkin rings.
2. Textured Linens - Make it a tactile paradise with intricate details. Ruched silks, velvets, linen and even ultra suede are being used to add interest to wedding day tablescapes.
3. Dramatic Glass - Incorporating black or clear crystal (think Baccarat) into your decor. Add vessels for floral or water goblets for a dramatic, rich feel.
4. Less is More - Instead of several small arrangements clustered together, do a few larger displays. Add large crystals and chunky candles for a bold statement.
5. Touch of Class - Beautiful chandeliers with long strands of Swarovski crystals always dress up a space and can be added to your decor easily. You can even add a few bundles of floral for more effect.

Wednesday Wedding Wishes, No. 52
For the past few years AK Event Design has been working with Mr. Shawn Todd of Todd Interests on an up and coming venue in Dallas. Located in the historic United States Post Office and Courthouse at 400 North Ervay in Downtown Dallas, The Venue at 400 North Ervay is sure to be Dallas' premier event destination. There are three different spaces to choose from for hosting an event. There is a Grand Hall downstairs that serves as the Post Office during the day but at night can be transformed into the perfect place for a cocktail hour or rehearsal dinner. Imagine one long table that seats about 100 guests...like we said, it is GRAND! We get really excited about the details... Imagine your event going a little something like this, as guests arrive the valet will graciously take their car and welcome them to your event. Upon entering the space the history of the building will overwhelm guests. From the marble wainscoting, to the historic post office windows guests can enjoy cocktails in the Post Office pre-function space. Then, guests will be whisked to the third floor ballroom/courtroom, which has been historically restored with its fresco painted ceilings, wood paneled walls and original judges bench. Imagine a 1930's feel...elegant, historic, beautiful!!

Spring is just around the corner and after the unseasonable winter weather we had in Dallas we can all agree we are ready for a change. Spring time brings tulips (my favorite), warmer weather and WEDDING SEASON! Wedding trends often take cue from fashion , which this spring is showing vibrant corals, lavendars, pinks and teals. Creating groupings of colors is a great way to create a stunning environment in a tasteful manner.

It is easy to get carried away with color so as to avoid going overboard stay classic and elegant with modern touches and colors that will ensure a timeless wedding. 25 years from now you still want to look back at your wedding and love every aspect of it. So stay true to your style and most importantly have fun!!

Wednesday Wedding Wishes, No. 37
1. Outdoor Weddings - The sun is setting, the view is beautiful and the string quartet begins to play 'The Wedding March' as you walk down the aisle....breathtaking! The idea of moving ceremony and reception outdoors and departing the 4 wall ballroom is like a breath of fresh air. Remember when considering this option, you will have to take into account the time of year and always have a plan B just in case Mother Nature decides not to cooperate.
2. Blast for the Past - Vintage details are always timeless and fun to incorporate into your wedding day. From using parts of mom's or grandma's dress into yours or even your bouquet to photos from both sides into your reception decor. You can also incorporate vintage jewelry, vintage inspired head pieces, vintage 'get away' vehicles, the list goes on and on.
3. Rustic Wedding Cake - Fondant covered cakes are always gorgeous, but maybe consider having a delicious butter cream frosted cake with natural flowers or fruit. The cake table is always an important part of the reception decor, so make it beautiful, however that is to you!
4. Simple & Pretty - Ove the top decor is taking a back seat to more simple arrangements that are low and more compact. Also consider using long tables with unique custom linens then round tables. This unique twist on an old trend will remind your parents of their wedding day.

5. Bridesmaid Dresses - Rather then select the dress and color for all your girls to wear and contending with different complexions and body types give them options, they will thank you! As the bride select a color you would like for all the girls to wear and then allow them to select the dress color shade, style, neckline that best flatters their figure and style.
Whatever you decide to do with your wedding day design, decor and details don't forget to have fun with the planning process and make sure you have a great time the day of your wedding!
